How did men dress in the 1950s?

The majority of the working men in the 50s were business men who worked in offices in the city. To go along with their jobs, they wore suits with matching ties and occasionally fedoras. Most mature men dressed this way all of the time, unless they had a formal occasion, then they would wear tuxedos. It was important to look neat and tidy, for both men and women. Short, combed over hair was the popular style during this time. Boys and teenagers went for a sportier look for school and everyday wear. They usually wore clean-pressed pants with a light-weight button up shirt. Some "rebels" in the fifties wore jeans with a leather jacket over a white tshirt. Movies such as Grease portray this style of dress for teenage boys, but it was uncommon.
